How To Avoid Cloudy Pool Water | Kansas City Pool Experts

Cloudy pool water can make your pool seem less inviting and put a damper on your enjoyment of your pool. Luckily, there are steps you can take to avoid cloudy pool water! Below, our experts at Pools By York discuss how to keep your pool water clear and perfect for swimming.

Keep it free of debris

The sanitizer in your pool will attack any debris present. This means that if there’s a lot of debris, the majority of the sanitizer’s efforts will be spent sanitizing the debris, not the water in your pool. The dirt on the debris in the pool and the sanitizer not cleaning pool water as much because of it will create cloudy pool water.

To combat this, take some time every day to use a net to clear out any debris. This is especially important on a windy day or after a storm. You can even spend time while you’re in the pool clearing it with a small net. This is just another reason to spend time in your lovely pool!

Check on your filter

It’s easy to forget the various filters we use to keep things clean in our cars, homes, and pools. When your pool filter is old or clogged, it simply can’t do its job. Maintain your filter by checking on it every so often and change it out per the manufacturer directions.

Optimal chemical balance

One of the most difficult parts of maintaining a pool is the chemistry of the water. Shock your water as needed, most pool owners do this once a week and after a lot of rain.

You should also routinely check on and perform maintenance for your pool’s pH and chlorine levels.

  • Maintain pH levels in the range of 7.2 – 7.6
  • Maintain chlorine levels in the range of 1 – 4 ppm
