How to Keep Your Deck Clean this Fall

No one likes a dirty, worn-down deck. Plus, not properly cleaning your deck can lead to even more problems like mold and dirt build up that’s nearly impossible to get rid of. Good thing our team at York Companies has all the answers you need to learn how to keep your deck clean.

Do not let leaves pile up

It could be easy to say “I’ll just wait until all the leaves stop falling,” but that’s not the ideal way to go. When leaves pile up, they become too compact and harder to sweep or rake away. Plus, they can get wet with rain, and if layers of wet leaves sit on your deck for extended periods, you could face mold and mildew.

Pull out the deck cleaner

We highly recommend doing an in-depth cleanse at least once every season. So as August turns into September, you should consider removing everything from your deck and doing a deep clean. Make sure you leave the deck cleaner on for 15 to 20 minutes before you start brushing.

Pressure wash your deck

If you’re noticing some extra stains or your wood seems a little discolored, you can try pressure washing your deck to keep it looking sparkly and clean. Before you start, make sure you speak with your deck manufacturer or whoever installed your deck to know which pressure levels are safe. You don’t want to damage your wood.
