A pool is supposed to be refreshing on a hot summer day, but if your pool is too hot for comfort, what’s the point? If you’re dealing with this problem, don’t worry! You’re 100% not alone.

What makes a pool too hot

There’s a pretty basic reason why your pool gets too hot. If you have a backyard that sits under direct sunlight and your pool is 6ft or less, those rays are going to get things pretty warm. So basically, it’s nothing to do with your pool itself. It’s just the Kansas City summer.

Ways to cool down a hot pool

Get some shade

Planting trees and other tall plants can help shade your pool from the sun, which will naturally help to not get so hot during the summer.

Reverse your heat pump

This is only an option if you have a reversible heat pump. Reversible heat pumps can either cool or heat a pool, so if you get a little too hot, just flip it.

Add a waterfall

By the way, waterfalls aren’t as expensive as you may think! As water falls into the pool, the action causes evaporation, which leads to cooling. Plus, a pool fountain can make your pool look absolutely amazing!

We installed a fiberglass pool at our home 7 years ago, and the pool has been virtually maintenance free.
