Pool Maintenance Tips: How to Clean Your Pool

Unless it’s a mud bath, no one likes a dirty pool. Having your own inground pool can be a lot of work, but luckily our team at York Companies has got you covered. Read on to learn more about our pool maintenance tips to keep your pool clean this summer.

How often should I clean my pool?

You should clean your pool at least once a week to avoid debris build up. Believe it or not, chlorine doesn’t do everything to keep your pool clean, and you’re going to have to do some brushing and scrubbing.

Tools you will need:

  • Telescopic pole
  • Skimmer net
  • Pool brush
  • Pool vacuum

How to clean your pool the right way

Whenever you see random debris, you can always use the telescopic poles along with the skimmer net to quickly pick up anything you see. At least twice a week, scrub the walls and bottom of your pool with a pool brush. If you have a fiberglass pool, avoid brushes with stainless steel bristles. Instead look for brushes with nylon bristles only (not a mix).

From there you can vacuum your pool about every other day to get inside those nooks and crannies. If you don’t want to spend a lot of time manually vacuuming, you can always try out automatic ones.

In addition, make sure you’re always cleaning your patio and checking chemical levels. You don’t want to end up with an icky green pool or chlorine that’s too strong.
