How to Arrange Your Outdoor Living Space

Outdoor living spaces are a great opportunity to spend more time outdoors. York Companies are experts in building everything you could need to create your backyard getaway! Here’s some tips on how to arrange your outdoor living space:

Pools and pool decks

An important (& underrated) part of the pool area is the pool deck. With pool deck styles to choose from including concrete, turf, and wood, you can mix and match to create a unique space. Remember that you need room to lay out in the sun, and if you have kids, for them to play on.

If you want the pool to be the star of your backyard, adding water features and pool lighting can grab guests’ attention. Most homeowners want a view of the pool from the house, so position it in a way that draws attention, and try adding a stone walkway. To have less water getting inside the house, place the pool further away.

Decks

Deck placement is a key part of how to arrange your outdoor living space. First, decide if you want only a pool deck, a screened porch, or a traditional deck. Decks are typically right behind the house or connected, so you’ll have a great view of the pool. If you want to save, you can opt for only a pool deck and lay out some chairs and a couch closer to the house.

Outdoor kitchens

Depending on if you want a full-on kitchen with stoves and ovens, outdoor kitchens can beautifully blend into the outdoor living area. Having a lounge area next to the kitchen is ideal, and if you want a dining table you can add that near the other furniture. Don’t forget that you’ll need access to water pipes & electrical lines–this may impact the location!

Furniture

Furniture allows you to make the space your own. However, understanding how to avoid cramming the space will allow you to make the most of it. When deciding how to arrange your outdoor living space, do not try to squeeze too much in. This not only applies to sizes, but also patterns and materials. You can also opt for some trendy family-friendly backyard styles like a suspended hammock or tree house. If you plan on having large gatherings, try arranging seating in a circle or a large L-shaped couch. For a more relaxed area, try a chaise lounge or hammock!
